(Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)ESPN’s team of college football writers released their preseason top 25 power rankings today in anticipation of the 2019 season.Clemson comes in at No. 1, followed by Alabama at No. 2, just like the preseason Coaches’ Poll top 25, which was released last week.Texas, which is coming off a Sugar Bowl win over Georgia, is ranked No. 10 in ESPN’s preseason power rankings. The Worldwide Leader’s college football writers are high on the Longhorns. Defense undoubtedly will be the key area in camp, as Texas must replenish a front seven that returns only one major contributor in Malcolm Roach. The Longhorns will be younger on D but possibly better, and if they can fast-track some of their recruiting success, they should once again challenge Oklahoma for the Big 12 championship.ESPN’s Football Power Index, however, is not so high on Texas. The Longhorns have a 14-spot difference in the preseason power rankings and the preseason Football Power Index, making them perhaps the most “overrated” team in the eyes of ESPN’s computer model.ESPN’s FPI places Texas at No. 24, projecting a record of 7.7-4.6, a far cry from a top 10 team.Texas will get a chance to prove itself early, as the Longhorns are set to play LSU in Week 2.
