Once again a tweet from the England fast bowler has gone viral on social media after the India batsman Prithvi Shaw was handed a doping ban by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday.Shaw was handed an eight-month back-dated ban (till November 15, 2019) after ingesting a prohibited substance called Terbutaline. Four years ago there was a tweet from Archer which said, “Unlucky Shaw”, is being circulated on social media due to the eerie coincidence in this case.Archer’s tweets during the Cricket World Cup 2019 regarding some of the outcomes of the matches had gone viral. There was a Archer tweet for nearly everything that happened during the showpiece even in England which the hosts won.The Cricketing fraternity was able to dig up old tweets from Jofra Archer’s Twitter timeline and relate it to some of the highlights of World Cup 2019 in England. The results were freakish, to say the least. From “Jadeja can bat tho” to “How new Zealand lost this game?1?1?1?11″, England’s World Cup-winning fast bowler seemed to have predicted the entire World Cup 2019. And the predictions are still going on it seems with Shaw’s case being the latest. This Jofra is LEGEND #PrithviShaw pic.twitter.com/4Rn1JT62suSameera (@Sameera1606) July 30, 2019The BCCI said Shaw, who made his Test debut last year, admitted to the Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) but the 19-year-old asserted that it was ‘inadvertent’, ingesting the substance when he had used an over-the-counter cough syrup.advertisementShaw released a statement later on Tuesday, accepting the punishment and hoped this example would deter other athletes from neglecting protocol when it came to taking medicines.pic.twitter.com/KXYHcUcBR0Prithvi Shaw (@PrithviShaw) July 30, 2019″I accept my fate with all sincerity. I have to take this in my stride and hope it inspires others in our sports fraternity too in India.”We as athletes need to be extremely careful in taking any medicine for the smallest of medical ailments even if the medicine is available over the counter,” Shaw explained on Twitter. Also Read | I accept my fate with all sincerity: Prithvi Shaw responds to BCCI doping suspensionAlso Read | Prithvi Shaw suspended by BCCI until November 15 for doping violationFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program Expands to Adults and Across the Province

first_imgCommunities, victims and offenders will benefit from the province-wide expansion of the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program to adults. The decision to expand the program was announced today, Nov.21, at the National Restorative Justice Symposium in Halifax. “Restorative justice has proven to be a good option for communities, victims and offenders,” said Justice Minister Diana Whalen. “That’s why we’re expanding the program and offering it across the province. “Restorative justice requires offenders to take responsibility for their actions and holds them accountable to the community and their victims. This helps victims and their families get the closure and support they need to heal.” The restorative justice expansion will replace the Adult Diversion Program. Restorative justice takes a more inclusive approach that has shown better outcomes for all involved, with offenders far less likely to come into conflict with the law again. “After our café was broken into, we were devastated,” said Meghan Peters, co-owner of the Tall and Small Café. “Through restorative justice we met the person who broke into the café, we saw their remorse and how much they wanted to make things right. “I want people to know that something positive can come from negative actions thanks to the restorative justice program. It is such a humane, respectful, and positive part of our justice system and with the right people and situations, it can heal and provide closure. I can’t imagine any other outcomes having had the same positive impact for both of us and we still stay in touch to this day.” The expansion stems from successful pilots that began in 2011, in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, the Municipality of East Hants and Colchester County. Restitution rates from the pilots have been very successful, with strong support from criminal justice partners and a high satisfaction rate among victims.last_img read more

CIBC launches enhanced travel rewards loyalty program

TORONTO — The Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce is launching an enhanced travellers’ loyalty program, making good on its promise to broaden its offerings just two weeks after agreeing to sell about half its Aeroplan customer base to TD Bank.Unlike Aeroplan, which originated as Air Canada’s frequent-flier rewards program, points collected with the new CIBC Aventura cards can be used to buy tickets on any airline.CIBC has been the main issuer of Aeroplan credit cards for more than 20 years, under a series of long-term agreements that was set to expire at the end of this year.Over time, however, other banks have brought out other travel points cards to compete with CIBC’s Aerogold and Aimia, the company that runs Aeroplan,  has added a wider variety of partners such as retailers.David Williamson, senior vice president of retail and business banking at CIBC, said Tuesday, that the CIBC Aventura lineup was developed “based on extensive research with Canadians on what they want in a travel rewards program.”The bank said the Aventura cards offer the most choice of any travel rewards program, giving them “the opportunity to choose the rewards program that best meets their needs.”The changes follow a decision by Aimia’s to pick TD Bank Financial as the primary issuer of Visa credit cards for its flagship Aeroplan program. The deal comes with a 10-year term, starting Jan. 1, 2014.CIBC, which had been the primary Aeroplan credit card issuer for more than 20 years, contested Aimia’s decision and eventually reached a deal that gives each bank rights to half of the portfolio of Aeroplan Visa accounts.CIBC will keep the half of the portfolio that includes Aerogold customers with broader relationships with the bank. CIBC will continue to issue Areogold cards for another 10 years, starting Jan. 1, and introduce its own travel loyalty rewards.TD has said it expects to acquire about 550,000 cardholder accounts from CIBC, representing approximately $3-billion in card balances and $20-billion in annual retail spending.Aimia also agreed to pay about $312.5-million to CIBC for the shift of half its Aeroplan cards portfolio to TD, with Aimia funding about $150-million of the payments.CIBC says the enhancements to the Aventura program mean customers will be able to redeem their points on any airline and select any destination they want, and have access to every seat on the plane. They will also be able to use their points to pay for flight taxes and fees, and get additional perks like bonus points when they sign up, the option to earn points faster and trip cancellation or medical insurance.TD has said the transfer of Aeroplan-branded credit cardholders from CIBC will be “seamless” without any interruption in Aeroplan miles earned by customers. read more

Alexa turn up my Kenmore AC Sears cuts a deal with Amazon

FILE – In this May 11, 2017, photo shows a Sears store in Hialeah, Fla. Sears is looking to get a hand from Amazon, announcing that it will start offering its Kenmore products on the online powerhouse’s website. Sears, which runs Kmart and its namesake stores, said that Kenmore Smart appliances will also be fully integrated with Amazon’s Alexa. This will allow consumers to control products, like Kenmore Smart air conditioners, by making a request to Alexa. Shares of Sears Holdings, based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, surged more than 8 percent in Thursday, July 20, premarket trading. (AP Photo/Alan Diaz) Alexa, turn up my Kenmore AC; Sears cuts a deal with Amazon by The Associated Press Posted Jul 20, 2017 6:33 am MDT Last Updated Jul 20, 2017 at 4:20 pm MDT AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to RedditRedditShare to 電子郵件Email HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Sears will begin selling its appliances on Amazon.com, including smart appliances that can be synced with Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa. The announcement Thursday sent shares of Sears soaring almost 11 per cent. The tie-up with the internet behemoth could give shares of the storied retailer one of its biggest one-day percentage gains ever.Sears, which also owns Kmart, said that its Kenmore Smart appliances will be fully integrated with Amazon’s Alexa, allowing users to control things like air conditioners through voice commands.“The launch of Kenmore products on Amazon.com will significantly expand the distribution and availability of the Kenmore brand in the U.S.,” Sears Chairman and CEO Edward Lampert said in a company release.Sears has struggled with weak sales for years, and announced more store closings earlier this month, partly due to the emergence of Amazon.com and other internet operators. It said in March that there was “substantial doubt” it could continue as a business after years of bleeding money.Neil Saunders, managing director of research firm GlobalData Retail, said it’s a win for Sears, putting its products where customers are shopping.Sales at existing Sears stores, a key measure of a retailer’s health, have been in rapid retreat for years.“Other channels and routes to market are needed,” Saunders said. Many saw the agreement with Amazon.com as a lifeline for Sears, with the volume of trading company shares enormous on Thursday. And the law of action-reaction is almost always visible when Amazon.com is in the mix.Shares of other major retailers that sell appliances, Best Buy, Home Depot and Lowe’s, fell between 4 per cent and 6 per cent. The agreement with Seattle-based Amazon goes beyond the point of sale for Sears. Also part of the deal is delivery, installation and the service work that comes with product warranties, which will be provided by Sears Home Services. While Saunders doesn’t think the deal represents a big shift for the retail sector, he said that it does illustrate how retailers must adapt and offer goods through multiple channels if they want to thrive. He believes others are already scrambling to do so.Shares of Sears Holdings Corp., based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, jumped 92 cents to close at $9.60. read more
