Digicel Cup getting statistics on time

first_imgRugby League BY FIDELIS SUKINA The Digicel Cup competition is moving forward and working to get statistics and results in time to prepare for real time updates when their website is up and running. Competition manager of the PNG National Rugby League Competition that manages the Digicel Cup, Stanley Hondina, said the results had been coming in as early as Sunday and as late as Monday for the weekend matches. “The match results and statistics are handed to us on Monday afternoon the latest otherwise we receive them on Sunday afternoon,” Hondina said. “We have a strong and committed team out there and it’s worth mentioning them and commending them for their efforts, in a big picture there are only few of us on the payroll and three quarters of the people that support the game are volunteers. “I just want to congratulate the coaching match officials and the independent observers. We are making use of technology and we are getting the match results and the independent match observer is taking the photos of the results and sending it through to us on WattsApp and that’s when we receive all reports on Sunday afternoon and we load them up onto the sporting TG network. “We know that we will have a website soon and we will have real time updates and behind the scene we are working to get the results in on time.” Hondina said that it was important to keep documentation of the results and statistics of the competition and they have been running courses with match observers and coaching match officials (CMOs) on the importance of the subject. “We have also added more officials and we pay them, they are CMO’s. They are responsible for coaching the referees and touch judges and they have a standard form to complete on assessing the referees, the match observers look after the score sheets and the general conduct of the game. “It is important for them to keep reports and documents so we can have records and keep checks and balance of the games,” he said. “At the forefront the PNGNRLC have spent a good amount of money on referees and coaches accreditation through Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League and National Rugby League in PNG so it’s good we synchronise the reporting and the refereeing as well, to get the best result of the game.”last_img read more
