first_imgEveryone is fascinated by AI, but a survey by Gartner found that only 4 percent of businesses are really using AI, although 46 percent are anxious to get started.Whit Andrews, research vice president at Gartner, said that “despite huge levels of interest in AI technologies, current implementations remain at quite low levels. However, there is potential for strong growth as CIOs begin piloting AI programs through a combination of buy, build and outsource efforts.”Gartner summarizes four lessons identified from their clients who have taken on AI projects:Don’t Overreach.   “Start AI projects with a small scope and aim for ‘soft’ outcomes.”Augment existing jobs — don’t displace them.  “Get them [workers] excited and engaged with the idea that AI-powered decision support can enhance and elevate the work they do every day.”Educate Staff. “Ensure that early AI projects help transfer knowledge from external experts to your employees.”AI-Based Decisions Need a Why. “Executives need to understand why it is effective, and offer insights into its reasoning when it’s not.”last_img
